subject: Day Dreaming [print this page] Have you ever felt guilty day dreaming? Has there been a situation when you are caught red handed daydreaming? It"s pretty natural because that"s the way we have been raised. Most of us have been raised under the taboo that day dreaming is a very inappropriate thing to do. Day dreaming happens with everyone but some do that more. It so happens that sometimes people day dream and try to relive the moments spent in the past. But please don"t treat day dreamers as if they did something wrong. It"s very unfair on your part to do so. For instance you might think of the time when you spent time with your friends and put yourself in a different situation this time.
It usually happens with things that happened in the past and it"s not possible to relive such moments. Sometimes people will think of the memories that occurred to them in the past and dwell on them while they are watching a movie. I have such similar thoughts which occupy my mind when I am watching a movie. I start thinking about a different topic and then suddenly I realize that I had been daydreaming and feel guilty about it. There are actually two aspects to this process. Kids for instance daydream about a lot of things and sometimes they maybe good experiences. These good experiences actually lead to similar good dreams that they will have when they become adults. On the other hand, unfortunately some kids might have bad experiences with day dreams. Such children suffer from anxiety and fear when they grow into adults.
Actually there was a myth that daydreaming people were usually prone to mental illness. There was a very wrong misconception that daydreamers were people who had a lot of feeling s and desires that remained to be fulfilled. It was the psychologists who changed this idea. They were strong in their ideas that it is a very normal and natural phenomena. Every individual experienced such feelings and had the tendency to day dream. It only becomes a problem when there is too much of daydreaming. Such people don"t think about their responsibilities and they dream often. You identify it as a problem when it interferes with your present activity and you don"t perform your normal day to day activities. Such individuals may need psychotherapy.
The good thing about day dreaming is that it paves way for certain cells in the brain to function and your level of creativity increases. Isn"t that a good thing? Now this is not something very new to us. We would have read stories about many scientists, painters, artists who develop new ideas while they daydream. That"s how Newton developed the law of gravitation when he was sitting under an apple tree. There have been a lot of contradictions with respect to daydreaming. Why do people day dream. Where does the need to daydream arise from?
Day dreamers usually have these short intervals of dreams and escape into a world of their own. They do it in order to fulfill their hidden frustrations and feelings. Every person has the tendency to day dream. Did you actually know that on an average, one third to one fifth of a person"s dreams is day dreams? They problems arise when daydreams get mixed with reality and there is confusion between daydreams and reality. This is actually called hallucination. Students sometimes daydream and miss out on the homework given. You can call this as a psychological issue. I especially day dream while I watch my favorite programs on my TV through Charter Deals. Balancing is the key to manage this issue.
