subject: Wprdpress Or Cpanel- How Should I Back Up My Site? [print this page]

There is nothing that is more important than to have a back up of all the data and information stored on your website. That is why you are always advised to back up your site in a place other than a domain email address because if anything happens to your site, that too will be affected. Even so, the question of how to back up your property is the most important and also the most confusing to many people. Should you back up the entire cPanel or simply back up the blog part which is the WordPress backup.

This two back ups are good for your site and very essential for anyone with a site. However, they are not the same all through. With WordPress, you will only be backing up your blog. This can be done automatically by adjusting the settings on your site and configure them either for a weekly backup or a daily one. With cPanel, you are backing up the whole website account including anything you had put on it including all your email accounts, your databases, your entire blog, any forums you had and any databases you had kept.

Backing up your whole site is recommended at least once a month. However there is a slight hitch to this practice. It your site contains a lot of information, databases and general content a full cPanel backup will take up a lot of time and definitely a lot of space. Therefore if your site takes up 18 gigabytes then it will take up 18 gigabytes of your space every time you back it up.

This space increases with every back up and within no time you might just need up to 1 or even 2 terabytes for a complete backup. This disadvantage is very easily taken care of by the less weighty WordPress backup. See there is absolutely no need for you to back up the very first video you uploaded every time you create a new backup. Therefore, the WP backup comes in handy to take care of the most recent and fast changing information on your site.

There is a need to understand exactly what a wordpress backup does for you.

Such a backup stores all your WordPress settings and content on your database and blogs. It also stores videos, pictures, audios in your wordpress folder. To add on to that you have the whole WordPress account backed up the moment you click on the back up button. This is very easy to do since all you require is a backup plug in installed on your dashboard. The rest requires you to adjust your settings and schedule a daily, weekly or even monthly back up. Once you click on back up, the process is initiated. The next question would be where do you want to back up that site? You can save it in an external or internal drive or in an independent email address other than any of your domain emails. This is to avoid exceeding your bandwidth within a short time of your new package.

The best way to go about backing up your site is that you should conduct a cPanel backup at least every month and a Wordpress backup at least once a week.
