Select foods that have a vegetable base. Vegetables are low in carbs. This advice is good to use when you go out on the town to eat. Pick your side dishes based upon how many vegetables they have. A lot of side dishes have a high amount of calories and are covered with foods rich in carbs. For instance, steamed veggies are a perfect selection for a side dish. The are also wonder picks for snacks. One of the hardest parts of eating a low carb diet is choosing good snacks. Carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower all considered to be wonderful and carb free snacks. If there are any carbs in these veggies, then the levels are very low.

Lots of people assume that one of the best things about eating a low carb diet is that you are free to eat lots and lots of meat. You do get to eat a lot of meat, however, you need to be picky about the cuts of meat that you eat. Meat isn't free of fat, however. You need to be sure that you're using lean cuts of meat for your meals. Lean beef, lean chicken and even lean cuts of fish. You will feel even better if you limit the fat in your meat dishes.

Try roasted foods rather than fried. Roasted vegetables are a great side dish. French fries are out, roasted taters are in. Try fresh green salad instead of bread. Choose a vegetable based main dish and order something meaty for your side dish or appetizer. There are lots of ways to eat at restaurants and maintain a low carb diet. Watch for those healthy foods when ordering. Tons of people think that they only have to eat a low carb diet and they are healthy. This is the wrong thinking. When eating a low carb diet is good, you must ensure you get all of your nutrients and vitamins and you don't eat many calories. One of the main reasons that maintaining a low carb diet is hard is that all of the good snacks are filled with carbs. If you are used to making wise choices; you will realize that eating low carb is easier that you thought.
