subject: How To Boost Your Budget And Bring Office Costs Down [print this page]

Individual business owners and small business owners that have their own office can boost their budget by reducing office costs. There are many methods that can be used to decrease costs that are incurred at your office. To do this you need to develop a plan to manage your office costs. To do this you can make a list that you can follow that will help you reduce your office costs.

Turn off Lights

Electricity that is charged to a utility customer is typically based on consumption or the amount that has been used each month. Review your electrical bill and make a note of the cost per kWh. Make a note of the amount of Kwh used for the month. Multiply these two together to see the amount that was charged for your electric usage. If your utility costs 10 cents per kWh then you will save $100 a month for each 1,000 kWh that you conserve.

Check Air Conditioner

Use a thermometer to check the temperature of the air at your cold air return. Check the temperature at the register nearest the air conditioner unit. The difference between the two temperatures needs to be at a level that is between 14 and 22 degrees. If the temperature is is out of this range then you need to first check the filter and make sure it is not dirty.

Reduce Paper Usage

When paper is being used for basic printing make sure that multiple page documents print on both sides of the paper. If you have a printer with a duplexer, make sure it is set to double-sided printing. Save all your files and documents electronically. Thee can be viewed online and printed when hard copies are needed for a meeting or other purpose.

Turn Off Electronics

Computers, printers and other electronic devices that you use do not need to be left on all night. Before employees leave for the night they need to turn off any desk lights, their computer, monitor and copiers and printers that are used daily.

Saving money by managing costs that you incur by instituting cost saving measures. You can do this by hiring a consultant to develop a cost-management plan for your office. Bringing down office costs can also be done by replacing old inefficient electronics with new energy-saving devices. Compare the cost for one month to the same month in the previous year.
