subject: Creative Ways To Be Productive This Summer! [print this page]

Summer break is a fun, relaxing time, but having that much free time can be overwhelming. After a rough year at school, it can be a relief to have a break, but after a couple of weeks, many teens start to get bored and look for new ways to occupy their time. If you"re bored over summer break, here are a few ideas to make your summer more fun and productive.

Get a summer job: If you"re scrambling for ways to occupy your time during the summer, why not look for a summer job? Many businesses hire over the summer, and it can be a great opportunity to make some extra cash and build your resume at the same time. There are many jobs available at pools, camps, and day care centers, over summer break, and many parents are looking for babysitters or nannies. Take advantage of the time you have over the summer to make a little extra cash, which you can spend during the year.

Organize your home: With all the stress of school and finals, it"s easy to let clutter take over your personal space. Now that you have a little free time, organizing and decorating your space can be calming and productive. Cleaning up your home can even be a lucrative way to make some extra money with minimal effort. Strike a deal with your parents where you are paid to clean the house. Or, take advantage of rising metal prices and try to get cash for coins, old jewelry, flatware, and other junk you find. Gold and silver prices are rising so you can get cash for coins and other precious metals you find around the house, which could potentially make you a lot of cash.

Take a summer class: Classes just ended, and the last thing you probably want to do is more school. But if you can manage a summer class, it can be a great way to get ahead for next year. Classes are often easier over summer sessions, and with fewer distractions, you can easily get an A and boost your GPA. The extra class could make your workload for next year a little easier or make you stand out to prospective colleges.

Get in shape: When you"re busy and stressed, healthy living and proper nutrition are usually the first things most people sacrifice. Late nights spent cramming for tests and writing papers often go hand in hand with missed workouts and midnight snacking. Now that you"re less stressed, take the time to focus on your body and health. Three months is a long time, and if you focus on healthy eating and working out regularly, you can establish living patterns that can help you deal with your stress in healthier ways, for years to come.

Though it may be tempting to just sit back and relax after a year of hard work, don"t let your summer get away from you. Taking a little time to unwind is necessary, but if you make good use of your free time, you can make your life a lot more fun and manageable during the school year.
