First Aid training is an important skill for most jobs. In Australia in March 2008 the new Health training package was released bringing all first aid competencies under one national training package. The nationally accredited training course is called HTFLA301C Apply First Aid. For those of you who may be wondering this is the new name for what you may know as Senior First Aid or Workplace First Aid.

There are three different course options for completing your first aid certificate in Western Australia. These are as follows:

Apply First Aid Online

The first aid course is completed in two sections.

Part 1: Online first aid study - This involves completing some background knowledge based learning through computer assisted learning. Normally students need to finish the Apply First Aid Training Online workbook and print out the certificate to present at the classroom course. In many training acadamy's this part of the course is free and depending upon your expertise and skill level commonly takes between 2 and 5 hours to complete.

Part 2: First Aid hands-on class.

In Perth Senior First aid courses, Apply First Aid, customarily run seven days a week and depending on the training school run for either one or two days, however a number of Perth first aid training centres offer an online training component and a 5 hour practical proficiency session.

The second option for Perth first aid training courses is the Apply First Aid Refresher. Available only to people who have a current Apply first Aid qualification this option involves a three hour assessment only practical Please note people enrolling in the First Aid refresher stream will need to bring a copy of their expiring certificate for validation purposes.

The Apply First Aid refresher for nurses and critical care staff is the third training option

This first aid training course is only available to presently licensed and practicing nurses and critical care workers including aged care nurses, theatre nurses, registered nurses, enrolled nurses and paramedics. This course is not available at all Perth First Aid training centres so you will need to shop around to find a Perth first aid training company that offers this course option.

All three Perth First aid training options include three units of competency and upon completion the accreditation is current for 3 years with the CPR module of the course being current for 12 months, so you will have to remember that your reaccreditation is due annually.
