subject: What You Should Do To Increase Confidence [print this page]

Simply, we can define self confidence as how we value ourselves, how we perceive our worth to the world and how important we think we are to others. People who are self confident are generally known to be in control of their lives--trusting their innate capabilities and attaining whatever goal they fix their eyes to.

However, having a healthy level of self confidence does not mean that you can do just about anything. Self confident people have appropriate expectations and ambitions. Even when some of their expectations are not met, they continue to be optimistic and to accept themselves.

Although most of the factors affecting self confidence are uncontrollable, there are certain things that you can do to build self confidence. Below is a list of a couple of simple tricks that you can use to increase confidence.

1. Evaluate your entire being. Learn to assess yourself independently. Doing this will help you avoid being controlled by other people's perception of who you are.

2. Groom yourself. Even though this tip may sound rather shallow, I could not stress more on how our looks significantly affect our confidence levels. So have a shower, shave, dress sharp and splash on some perfume. Have in mind that our looks greatly affects how we carry ourselves and how other people think of us and treat us. If you would like this to work on your advantage, then look wonderful at all times.

3. Adopt good posture. The way you stand, walk, sit or carry yourself in general also affects your confidence levels. People with slumped shoulders and unergetic movements display a lack of self confidence. So stand up straight, look people in the eye and keep your head up at all times. This way, you will make a positive impression on other people and have yourself feeling motivated and more alert.

4. Broaden your mental capacity. Empowering yourself in general is one of the most effective self-confidence building strategies. There are many ways to do this, but a lot of professionals say that the best way is through mental capacity enhancement. You become more confident as you become more well-informed. It is through constant reading and researching that one gains more knowledge. Among the things you can do is read books and other similar materials, go to school, go to the internet and observe human relationships.

5. End negative thoughts. To be able to get rid of these thoughts, you need to look deep into yourself and discover what you really think about yourself. You will then need to reframe your negative thoughts and replace them with more positive and uplifting ones.

Not a lot of people are able to develop a healthy level of self confidence, which is sad given that this is a very important aspect of our lives. I hope you have found this article useful in your attempt to develop a healthier self confidence. Just take one step at a time and you will eventually find yourself feeling more confident.
