According to Tim Cook, the present CEO of Apple, the new ipad is being taken to a whole new level and redefines the category Apple created with the original iPad.
Apple fans and consumers always hold a high expectation about Apples new product before it is unveiled. But this time, the new ipad doesnt have so many improvements as users expected. The new ipad introduced on the event comes with a dramatically sharper display but otherwise looks quite similar to past iPads.
For appearance, the new ipad comes with a far crisper display compared to the previous versions. The new retina display has a full high-definition 1080p resolution. Apples senior vice-president of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller said that the new ipad has the highest resolution display ever seen on a mobile device with 3.1 million pixels, delivering razor-sharp text and unbelievable detail in photos and videos.
As some rumors guessed, the new ipad maintains the 9.7-inch screen as earlier iPads, but it is slightly thicker than ipad 2. Therefore, most ipad 2 cases manufactured by other companies would probably suit the new ipad, but no garantees here.
One of the reasons the new ipad is thicker than ipad 2 may be the update of batteries. The battery on the new ipad can last up to 10 hours, and nine hours on 4G. Apple says the battery capacity is 70 percent higher than for the old model, which suggests that it could have kept the old screen and extended the battery life to 17 hours instead of upgrading the screen resolution. The battery is also sealed as its predecessors.
The most updates of the new ipad would be about the processors and network. The new ipad uses faster Apple-designed A5X chip with quad-core graphics doubles the processing speed of the A5 chip in the iPad 2. So everything would be faster than ipad 2. Besides, a 5-megapixel camera has built-in image stabilization, to help eliminate the shakes, and offers the ability to shoot video in full 1080p HD resolution.
Instead of 3G, the new ipad uses faster 4G, available from AT&T and Verizon Wireless. The speed of LTE wireless broadband networks are supposed to be much faster than 3G.
The pricing of the new ipad is similar with the predecessors. It starts at $499 for a Wi-Fi-only model with 16 gigabytes of storage and jumps to $599 for a 32 GB version and $699 for 64 GB. Models that can provide speedy 4G data access when Wi-Fi isn't available go for $629, $729 and $829, respectively. The new iPads will be available on March 16; Apple is taking preorders now.
