subject: Saint Patricks Day Ribbon Rainbow [print this page]

Top o the mornin to you! With Saint Patricks Day approaching, everyone seems to turn a wee bit Irish. Heres a bit of history about Saint Patricks Day to get you in the spirit. This day is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated internationally on March 17 of each year. It commemorates Saint Patrick, who is the most recognized patron saint of Ireland. It also commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. Back in the early 17th century, Saint Patricks Day was made an official feast day and is now characterized by attendance of church services, wearing green attire (or you might get pinched), and the lifting of the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol.

Nowadays, Saint Patricks Day has turned into a day of fun and frivolity, so why not make a fun craft with ribbon with your family? Heres a simple, but cute craft to put your family in the Irish spirit.

Rainbow Mobile

Everyone would love to find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Now you can make the perfect rainbow that is sure to delight your young ones.

Heres what youll need:

1 paper plate

Wide ribbon in rainbow colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple)

Scissors

White craft glue

Piece of ribbon for hanging

Then, just follow these easy steps:

1.Cut the paper plate in half.

2.Cut a 40-inch length of ribbon in each color.

3.Use one strip of each color. Glue the red ribbon strip around the top curve of the paper plate. Make sure to center the ribbon so you have equal lengths hanging off each side.

4.Repeat with each color, moving your way down from red to orange, then yellow, green, blue and lastly purple.

5.Add one more thin purple strip to the middle of the plate to fill the gap in the center.

6.Tie a piece of ribbon into a loop, then glue to the back of the plate to use as a hanger.

Hang your rainbow mobile above a bowl of chocolate gold coins or other treats to make a festive display.

If you want to add just a wee bit more Irish to your day, get some printed shamrock ribbon to make hair bows with or to add to homemade greeting cards. The printed ribbon also makes a nice accent to tie around a beautiful bouquet of green carnations or shamrock plant.

This St. Pattys Day, wherever you go and whatever you do, may the luck of the Irish be there with you!
