subject: Do Your Homework Before You Apply For A Phone Contract [print this page]

Recently, there have been relaxations in some of the rules with regard to getting mobile phone contracts for bad credit and some of these including lowering of the credit score as well. So, even if you have a bad score, the required credit score is likely to be so low that you may get the contract. It is better for you to check out the credit score requirement before you apply.

At the end of the day, it is all business and so different phone companies have different requirements. So, even if you have a bad credit, many phone companies offer you contracts with restrictions and conditions as well. There are even some companies that give you contracts without any credit checks at all. But in such cases, the call rates and the texting rates are likely to be much higher than compared to the normal ones. Also, the number of calls is also likely to be restricted. So, you need to look around for such companies and see whether any of them offer you a good contract for the credit score that you have.

You can also help yourself by applying for cheaper contracts and for contracts that have low cost handsets attached with them. Its obvious that the credit checks and the credit score requirements would be more for higher valued contracts. So why risk getting rejected when you know that you have bad credit? You have a much better chance of getting a contract if you apply for the cheaper ones.

There are also companies that give out monthly rolling contracts for those with bad credits. So, it may also be a good idea for you to apply for one of these and there is a good likelihood that your application might get approved despite having bad credit.

It is all about doing a bit of homework and choosing the right company and the contract to apply for. Bad credit does have a great effect on our livelihood and thats why its imperative that this is avoided at all costs. Of course, in some cases bad credit might be forced on you, like when credit reporting goes wrong, and in those cases, you would have to put up with these temporary hardships until the credit situation is resolved.
