subject: Bermuda Records 12 Per Cent Increase In Tourist Arrivals In 2011 [print this page] The Tourism Minister of Bermuda, Wayne Furbert, has announced that the Caribbean island received 655,236 visitors in 2011; a 12 per cent increase on figures in 2010.
During a recent press conference, Mr Furbert revealed that the increase in the number of tourists who took Bermuda holidays last year was good news but the best was yet to come.
The tourism figures were the second highest in the islands history and 2011 also recorded an increase in the islands air arrivals and the number of travellers who enjoyed holidays in Bermuda via cruise ships.
In 2011, Bermuda saw 236,038 air passengers fly to the island, which was a two per cent increase compared to 2010, and a 19 per cent increase in cruise passengers.
Last year, several Bermuda hotels recorded a rise in the number of tourists who stayed on the island, as well as an increase in the duration of the average holiday in Bermuda.
The Caribbean island has always been a popular spot for both tourists going on Bermuda holidays and as a financial offshore hub for businesspeople. In 2008, the global recession severely affected the countrys tourism but it appears that it is now on the road to recovery.
