subject: Kelly Rowland: Dreams Do Come True [print this page]

When we were children, we all had our own unique, sometimes ridiculous version of what we want to become when we grow up. Whether it was becoming a scientist or astronaut or super model or even a ballerina, all of us have spent hours upon hours day dreaming about them. But time moves on and those dreams get lost somewhere in the murkiness of the reality.

But not for Kelly Rowland though. Hers is a story that makes you wonder What on earth did this girl say in her prayers when she was little that pleased God so much that her every wish came true!

Otherwise who would have thought that an eight year old girl, who had just moved to a new city, would not only become part of a rapping and dance group but would also make friends with the likes of Beyonc Knowles. This R&B girl group went on to become Destinys Child- one of the best-selling female musical groups in history. Rowland, who was barely in her twenties at the time, had been imagining such stardom for a long time. The groups self-titled debut album went platinum before the year's end. Two more albums followed The Writing's on the Wall (1999) and Survivor (2001) -- earning the group countless fans across the globe as well as millions of records sold.

While still with Destinys Child, she teamed up with rapper Nelly for the track Dilemma, which rose to be one of the most successful singles of the year and won her a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, thus establishing her as a solo artist as well. The Kelly Rowland music video for this song even won a nomination in the MTV Video Music Awards-Best R&B Video category. Soon after, she released her debut solo album Simply deep, featuring a mixture of alternative R&B and rock music. The album was extremely successful, selling more than 3 million copies worldwide and availing recognition for Kelly as an extremely talented solo artist. But her journey with Destinys Child was far from over. In 2004, Rowland rejoined Beyonc Knowles and Michelle Williams for Destiny's Child's fourth studio album Destiny Fulfilled, and embarked on the bands Destiny Fulfilled ... And Lovin' It world tour. Soon after the groups disbandment, Destiny's Child was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in March 2006 and was recognized as the world's best-selling female group of all time by Time Magazine.

Her sophomore album Ms. Kelly was released in 2007 featuring hit singles like Ghetto in collaboration with Snoop Dogg, Work and Like this. Another hit Kelly Rowland video No Future in the Past was released in 2008 featuring French singer Ndiya. Next released was the house collaboration When Love Takes Over, the lead single of French DJ David Guetta's 2009 studio album One Love. The song saw major international success, peaking at number-one in several countries around the globe and becoming one of the most successful Kelly Rowland songs.

Her third album Here I am is still rocking the charts with hits like Commando, Lay it on me and Down for whatever and a fourth album is already on the cards. As this success saga continues, all we can think of is that blessed day when hearing Whitney Houston for the very first time had made a four year old Kelly Rowland picture herself as a superstar singer and God decided to grant her innocent wish in style!
