Curved Penis – What Causes It, Symptoms, Treatment

A pronounced curve or bend in the penis is most often caused by trauma or injury to the connective tissue of the penis and is usually related to sexual activity. . A curved penis is most noticeable when the penis is erect and may be referred to as Peyronie's Disease and may also affect the overall length and sensation in the penis. Although exact causes are not actually known, there are preventative measures that you can take to prevent Peyronie's Disease or worsening curvature. One should be aware that some curvature of the penis is considered normal if indeed the bend or curve in penis has been present from birth.

Trauma A curved or bent penis can be the result of direct trauma to the penis, including bending or hitting. This will cause scar tissue to build up in the connective tissue of the penis and result in a pronounced curvature that can occur at almost any age.

Symptoms Curvature or bending of the penis while erect. Often this curvature causes the penis to bend upwards. A pronounced lump at the base of the penis may be noticeable while the penis is flaccid. Additional symptoms include difficulty having or maintaining an erection, pain in the penis and/or difficulty achieving or maintaining penetration during intercourse.

Treatment Treatment includes a variety of medications such as verapamil, potassium aminobenzoate, colchicine or injected steroids. Unfortunately none of these medications has a proven track record of success. In addition vitamin E may be used to treat Peyronie's. In the event that severe pain occurs during erection surgery is sometimes considered (this surgery often focuses on removing scar tissue or "shortening" the non-bent side of the penis in effect balancing out the curvature).

Medication All so-called "beta-blocker" drugs list Peyronie's as a possible side effect and some association to anti-hypersensitive drugs has been reported. These drugs are often used to treat hypertension, heart attack and heart arrhythmia. If you have one of these conditions and you are taking one of many medications on the market you may experience Peyronie's. Consult your physician for alternate medications, treatments and preventative strategies. In many cases Peyronie's may go away on its own if the trigger has been removed.

Symptoms Pronounced curvature of the penis noticed after starting on one of the many beta-blocker medications. Curvature may develop slowly over time. Additional symptoms may include: shortening of the penis, lost sensitivity and/or difficulty having or maintaining an erection.

Treatment Consult your physician if you notice a curve in your penis after starting a new medication. Your physician may be able to prescribe an alternate course of treatment for your heart-related condition that won't result in Peyronie's.

Preventive Measures

There is a penis health crme (Man1 Man Oil is recommended) that helps many men suffering from penis health issues. It contains penis specific vitamins and minerals to offset penis vein damage and penis connective tissue damage which is most important in avoiding penis curvature.
