Kirkcudbright is the ideal holiday setting for golf enthusiasts amongst us. Kirkcudbright has a delightful 18 hole golf course offering excellent facilities and incredible views over the town, hills and estuary. Within a 30 minute drive from Kirkcudbright there are fantastic golf courses at Castle Douglas, Gatehouse of Fleet, New Galloway, Tongland and Brighouse Bay.
Cycling
Dumfries and Galloway one of the most cycle friendly places in the UK. The National Cycle Route & National Cycle By-Way both have lots of miles across Kirkcudbright and the 7Stanes forest cycling project has two centres within a few miles of the town. For the less energetic, the immediate area around Lake Cottage offers easy and safe cycling to and from the town and around the immediate vicinity.
Gardens
In and around Kirkcudbright there are a host of gorgeous gardens to wander around and explore. Broughton House and Garden, which is owned by the National Trust for Scotland, is the former home of the artist EA Horner. Threave Garden & Estate, near Castle Douglas, is also owned by the National Trust for Scotland and is open all year. A great time to visit is in April when the famous spring daffodils are in full bloom.
Fishing
Kirkcudbright truly is a mecca for fishers of all abilities. There is a trout fishery at Barmagachan, Borgue and the Gatehouse & Kirkcudbright Angling Association offers day tickets to two of its trout lochs nearby.
Beaches
There are little coves and beaches all along the coast line of Kirkcudbright. There is a great small secluded beach called Ladies Bay located on the other side of the Lifeboat Station further down the estuary. Just south of Gatehouse of Fleet there is Sandgreen and Mossyard beaches which are both particularly pleasant.
