subject: Wind Turbine Generators: What We Will We Do With The Power Lines? [print this page] With wind turbine generators dotting the landscape these days, many people are starting to reflect on the future of the current system of power delivery and what will become of it when we no longer need it. The way we have made electricity in this country for years has been to create it in central power plants and then distribute it over wires to everyone's house or business.
This method of distributing power is falling by the wayside though and probably won't be around that much longer. We are running out of fossil fuels to burn to make our electricity and we are being forced to come up with something else to make our power from. Making it at home from the wind and sun is the best way we have at the moment for creating electricity aside from the current method of central generation.
The advantages of making power this way are many...
This is a free source of energy that will never run out - Once you have paid for your initial investment, all of the energy that you create from the wind will be free from then on.
There is no pollution created when you use wind turbine generators - Because we are not having to burn fossil fuel in a power plant create the electricity, there is no pollution made when we use home wind turbines to make our power.
Making our power with wind turbine kits makes us independent of foreign sources of energy - We are now making our energy at home with no need to involve people in other countries whose political interests may be very different than our own.
Then the question becomes, what will we do with the power lines when we no longer need them? I mean, the plants that are burning fossil fuels now are going to be difficult to retrofit to burn other fuels, so it is likely that they will just be abandoned. As prices for the power that these plants make continues to go up and we gradually convert from using them to home-made power generated by renewable sources like home windmills and the like, we will be weaning ourselves of centrally produced electricity and it will be unlikely that we will go back and be able to make use of the wires anymore.
I believe there will be a massive scrap market for the wires that are over our heads now and that wind turbine generators will continue to be the source of a lot of our power for hundreds of years to come.
