subject: Useful Nutritional Guidelines For Bodybuilders [print this page]

Both long-term and near-term results are possible for bodybuilders if they have a good nutritional plan. Mastering the basics of any endeavor is the key to achieving anything in life. That piece of advice is no less true with bodybuilding and the right diet for weight training. You have to understand nutrition fundamentals because it is this knowledge that will help you know what to do. You must implement this information daily. So it is the basics plus taking action on them and using them. The nutritional plan in this article is an overview designed for bodybuilders.

All bodybuilders need to be aware of what is called, muscle deflation syndrome. A lack of carbohydrates from your daily diet is what triggers this to occur.

There is an idea that reducing carbohydrates helps to lose body fat. Though this is definitely possible, your muscles will not benefit as you are robbing them of glycogen and water. The end result is your muscles can become smaller if too many carbohydrates are removed from your diet. You can help build your muscles in size and mass by eating enough carbohydrates so you receive adequate supplies of glycogen.

Try to avoid becoming obsessed about fat content in foods. You want to look at fats in a sensible way based on the facts. It's important to realize that you'll find fats in even some of the healthiest foods. So one easy approach is to just make sure you are eating carbohydrates and proteins that are low in fat content. This will supply your body with essential fat, but not more than you require. The type of fats found in healthy oils such as olive, flax and various fish oils (the Omega series) are essential. Even though saturated fats (which are in animal protein) are often categorized as "bad" fat, your body uses these for some important tasks such as producing certain hormones, so you don't want to avoid them completely.

Bodybuilders should follow this one principle that applies to not only them but everyone. So you should always get as much variety in your diet. You'll notice that a sense of well-being will begin to manifest. This is due to the fact that you will be consuming a wide variety of foods which contains many nutrients. It will also prevent burnout and boredom with your diet. Once you get to that state, then you are more likely to start eating foods that may not be healthy for you.

Bodybuilders must ensure that their nutritional needs are met and that they consume everything in the right proportions. When it comes to carbs, for example, it's essential to eat the right number, neither too many or too few. Overdoing it in this area will give you excess fat. Your muscles may get smaller, though, if you're not getting enough carbs.
