subject: Say Hello to Algaecides and Clarifiers [print this page]

However, when one is asked about a pool chemical that is mostly used, the most common answer would probably be chlorine. For some pool owners, hearing the word chlorine scares them immediately and many negative thoughts are starting to ramble in their minds, leaving them worried about their health if ever they will use one. This situation makes them look for any other alternative that will provide them with same results but with less harm.

There are 2 great pool chemicals that serve as an alternative to chlorine that a lot of health conscious pool owners prefer nowadays and these two are algaecides and clarifiers. These two are a bit pricey compared to chlorine but are worth the money spent as far as their advantage goes because they provide the same results (as chlorine does) but do not promote any health risks.

Algaecides are great for pools that had experienced growth of algae; but, for it to be effective, it should be used regularly. However, for pools that already contain algae growth, the thing to do is to use pool shock as a way of removing these algae. This is why one must be wary and not be fooled when facing pool supply sellers who will tell you that algaecides are effective for pools with existing algae because they are not. Do not overuse, though. On times when your pool water seems unclean no matter how many times you filter it and you are sure the chemicals used are on a balanced level, you should take action in checking out on all the smallest particles not removed by the filter so as to prevent you from over using algaecides, which could reverse its effect.
