subject: Solar Panels Set To Adorn City Hall Roof In Norwich [print this page]

Norwich City Council are set to lead by example with the installation of solar panels on the roof of City Hall with the hope that it will inspire residents to follow suit.

The councils current annual electricity bill is set at around 110,000 and the installation of these panels will mean that they can save money on energy costs and also receive money from any excess electricity being sold back to the national grid. There is no reason why homeowners cant follow the Councils example and opt to install photo voltaic panels on their roof. The government is currently providing a financial incentive to anyone who chooses to install solar panels and like the Council it is in this way that you can benefit from electricity generation. The Feed In Tariff has reduced this month but still provides adequate compensation to homeowners eventually paying for the solar panels themselves. You receive money for both the electricity you generate and then an extra bonus amount for any fed into the national grid.

The roof at City Hall is perfect for the installation of solar panels, it is large and flat, meaning that the panels can be angled at the ideal pitch to catch as many of the suns rays as possible. When you look to have solar panels installed on your roof a surveyor will come and look at the angle and orientation of your roof to see whether you will be able to generate enough electricity to make the installation worthwhile. They will check that the roof is strong enough to support the solar panels too a problem which City Hall certainly wont have. Another reason why City Halls roof is so great is because it is not overshadowed by anything, being so high there will be no shadows cast by other buildings or trees which would reduce the amount of electricity generated.

So with Norwich City Council leading the pack for green energy generation will we see an influx of more solar panels in Norwich and the surrounding areas? With the price of electricity for home owners set to increase now might be the time to take action of your accord and reduce your electricity bill with by generating your own energy on the roof of your home.
