Security has become an important issue in these uncertain times. Security means protection of properties and people. This is accomplished with the help of a monitoring system.

A Security Camera is an integral part of any monitoring and surveillance system. Security cameras provide continuous video footage of the target area. Their application areas include homes, offices and public places. These devices provide real time, high resolution videos which act as a strong deterrent to criminals and incase of a theft it provides proof to the law enforcing agencies. Below mentioned are some of types of security cameras.

1. Bullet Cameras - As the name suggests these are small cylindrical cameras which are simple to install. They can be used for indoor or outdoor monitoring.

2. Dome Cameras - They suitable for any decor. Typically used in offices, stores and commercial establishments.

3. IP Cameras - These types of cameras use computer and internet to perform monitoring tasks.

5. Mini CCTV Cameras - A great device for discrete monitoring.

6. Fake Cameras - They look like real cameras but do not provide any video/images.

A Hidden Camera is a device which is not visible to people. It also means a camera which is camouflaged as a regular, day to day object. In either case such cameras are used for discreet or covert surveillance.

Hidden cameras are used in homes, offices, factories and sensitive locations. These are built into common objects such as clocks, photo frames, smoke detectors and pen stands. Wall clock and photo frame versions are generally used for household monitoring; to keep an eye on nanny or servants.

Dome cameras are used in commercial establishments and offices. Apart from dome type cameras, pen cameras are also quite popular. These cameras can be wired or wireless.

Of course a wireless camera will have a transmitter and a receiver. The recordings sent from these devices are stored in DVR's in digital format. Hidden cameras are also used in reality television shows. Participants are video taped at odd hours and situations, which are later telecasted to increase the TRP of the show.

CCTV DVR is an integral part of CCTV system. It is used to store video footage; which can be accessed in the future for various reasons.

Today, digital video recorders can store days and weeks of video footages. These recording and playback devices are equipped with large hard disks which makes data storage an easy task. Digital video recorders have several built-in functions such as fast forward, rewind and pause. It also allows viewing of footage from a particular time, date or even frame.
