subject: Utah Bus Driver Hits Young Woman At Crosswalk [print this page] Its not always a pleasant job to report news of injuries and negligence, but as personal injury attorneys its our job to make you aware of your rights, accident information and up to date personal injury stories. The most recent story of extreme negligence comes from Utah, where a Utah Transit Authority bus driver ran over a young 24 year old woman walking through the intersection.
Thats right, the bus driver drove right through the crosswalk and pinned the young woman under the front wheel of the bus. Jonathan Logan, one of three passengers on the bus and the man who jumped to the aid of the victim was quoted saying The girl was in the middle of the crosswalk, and I am surprised the driver didnt see her because she was right in the middle of it, but he didnt, and he hit her.
Whats worse about the accident is how the bus driver reacted. Logan recalls that the driver stopped the bus, got off and then back on before backing up the bus, leaving the young woman pinned under the wheel for those extra, vital minutes. Luckily Logan jumped off the bus to aid the struck victim, worrying that she was dead.
The young victim was alive, but badly hurt. Her known injuries so far are two broken legs. Jonathan Logan continued being a Good Samaritan by staying with the woman until emergency crews arrived and tried comforting the woman. He held her hand to help her get through the pain. Ironically, the woman wasnt a complete stranger to Logan; he had met her just shortly before she was struck. According to Logan, she was on the train with me right before, and she got off the train and started walking, and I got on the bus and watched the bus hit her.
While the Police and Utah Transit Authority are both conducting their own investigations to determine the actual events of the crash, many people say this is a very dangerous intersection. Its a tight fit for buses and drivers usually have to jump the curb just to get through. The bus riders as well as local residents feel the intersection needs to be amended as soon as possible to avoid any other possible accidents. Luckily, for the young woman, police say she is expected to recover from the injuries.
