subject: Free eBooks. Amazon slashes author price on 35 titles [print this page]

On 1st October the Digital products division of Amazon announced that 35 titles would be made available for free. Downloads of these titles have skyrocketed after the announcement.

These titles included four books from the popular Silk Road Series by author Brian Lawrenson. These include The Secrets of the Terracotta Warriors which is one of the top selling eBooks and it is available from Amazon's Kindle book stores. The other titles included: Journey to Lhasa in Tibet, China Silk Road Adventures, Istanbul and Travels in Turkey and the Golden Road to Samarkand. The Kindle formatting allows the eBook to read on iPads, Barnes and Noble readers, Sony readers and on laptops and computers via a PDF format.

The author recently released his 24th title; all in the travel genre. These stories are based upon his own travels. He has visited more than 70 countries. The titles include eleven titles in the sought-after Silk Road Series.

Brian comments, "Amazon changed the price of these books from $2.99 to Free without consulting me. The $2.99 price is very reasonable compensation for the authors work. Amazon are able to do this under a clause that says that if the same book is sold for less than the Amazon price in other outlets then it can reduce the price. Brian Lawrenson's books have just been distributed by Smashwords into the Barnes & Noble store, initially for free. In the first four days after the announcement over 10,000 copies were downloaded. The publicity lifted one of the titles to Best Seller in the Travel China category. It is nice to be a Best Seller but I'd feel happier if people had actual paid for the books."

Brian's books are part of the 700,000 title library available on Kindle and the list is growing every day. Apart from there being easy to read as the Amazon's Kindle reader uses the sensational all-new, high-contrast E ink screen, the new version of the reader has better battery life, lighter weight, and lower price. All of which vaults the reader to the top of the e-book reader category.

Brian comments, "Each book details the key points of our travel experiences. Travel is about experiencing the best that each country has to offer". "The Terracotta Warriors in Xian is one of the fascinating stories and the author after having visited the site first hand has researched the history of the site and he reveals research that has been made over the past ten years. Much of this is unpublished".

So if you want your copy for free before the author negotiates Amazon restoring the list price, you'd better act fast.
