subject: Discover Barcelona, The Perfect Short City Break Destination [print this page]

Due to domestic commitments, insufficient time for holidays or just a limited income, it is progressively harder for us to indulge in new adventures. In order to be able to take a few days off and get away more and more, holiday-makers are looking to short city breaks as a popular way to vacation in a new place.

Barcelona is not only a modern and fashionable city, it's also got a lot of attitude in every respect, whether it's to be found in the deep-rooted culture, bustling markets, cosmopolitan atmosphere, the Catalan dialect, or the art and architecture.

Barcelona is a city that draws in great artists and sculptors who have had, and still do, a lot of influence in their contribution to the landscape which has added to the superiority it has over other cities in the structure of architecture or museums. The works of Picasso and Antoni Tapies can be viewed in their own devoted museums which would occupy your time for weeks, or months, to completely cover. Stretching from La Ramblas covering the old port of Barcelona and the Placa Catalunya, it's easy enough to spend the day in the Barri Gotic and go no further as there's more than plenty to see and do. Ramble around the warrens of narrow alleys squeezed in between the ancient architectural styled buildings before finding yourself in one of the delightful squares where it's possible to rest in an alfresco cafe or tapas joint.

To visit appartement el borne Barcelona is to visit Gaudi, and no one should miss the opportunity as his works are so remarkable that it would be a pity to miss out. The city is fortunate to be the host for his creations, and he is one of the main reasons there are so many tourists here on a daily basis. The Sagrada Familia is one particularly famous structure like nothing else to be found or created in this time, and is guaranteed to be the most amazing cathedral you are ever likely to stumble upon.

Barcelona is still the home for many progressive architects, such as the award winning Ricardo Bofill, the man behind the iconic W Barcelona, with its interesting shape of an enormous boat sail. W Barcelona beats other prominent nominees in winning the Best Hotel Architecture in Europe award in 2010, which honours his architectural structures that harmonise with different cultures. Another hotel, situated in the 22@ district at Pere IV, is the Hotel ME Barcelona, a glass structure that shimmers in the day and transforms into a colourful symbol of the Diagonal by night. Some of his other creations include the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the Marques of Riscal in Elciego, Spain, and of course, the famous Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.

The Hotel ME Barcelona makes the most of the city views, as well as being a unique mix of ultra modern and Victorian with a classic interior and furniture. Crystal chandeliers personally selected by Pete Wentz have succeeded in creating a contemporary, dreamy ambiance.

Besides architecture, the Catalonian capital is also famous for its art of partying at night, obvious by the overwhelming number of clubs and pubs covering practically every theme there is going, and every budget. Barri Gothic and Las Ramblas are amongst the most popular districts as they are located right in the heart of the city and have an energetic presence that draws in foreigners as well as the locals. The area is full of cool clubs and pubs, and you'll be happy at the huge selection of chic venues amongst the usual tourist traps. Keep your eyes open for PR people handing out complimentary passes to some of the biggest name clubs - they're easy enough to spot in the city centre. These passes are useful because they more often than not provide free entry to clubs who generally have steep entrance drinks and will save you money.

You don't need to part with lots of cash in order to visit interesting destinations to discover a thrilling new culture and learn about its history, or find out more about art and taste the delicious cuisine. It's essential to have a change of scenery occasionally, and a few days away are enough time to see new things and strengthen the bonds between you and your friends and family. There are those who consider you need at least a week in order to explore all the city's attractions for yourself as it has so much to offer visitors, and with the warm weather and beach nearby it really is the ideal vacation destination. In the central area there are plenty of apartments you can call home during your stay here offering convenience and privacy. Invite friends back for a meal that you whipped up in your kitchen yourself from locally-grown produce, or chit chat in the luxury furnished living room with all mod-cons included.
