subject: What Are Some Of The Areas That Liposuction Can Treat? [print this page]

Liposuction (also known as lipoplasty and suction lipectomy) is an extremely popular procedure. For twelve out of the past thirteen years, the surgery has enjoyed the number one spot as the most popular cosmetic surgery in America. Every year, hundreds of Americans undergo this surgery, which removes excess fat from specific areas on a person's body. The surgery is similarly popular in many other areas around the world.

Why is lipoplasty so popular? One of the reasons for this could be how versatile is. Breast augmentation only affect the breast, and nose jobs only work on one's nose, but a lipoplasty can be performed just about anywhere there's extra fat on the body. And extra fat is something that almost everyone seems to have these days.

One of the very most popular areas for liposuction to treat is the abdomen. Neither men nor women tend to appreciate having large and protruding tummy bulges, and the surgery can frequently be very helpful in reducing the size of one's tummy. Some men can even use the surgery to help them get a six pack! The surgery can also be very effective at reducing the size of love handles by removing fat from the flanks.

In women, abdominal lipectomies are popular because they can help to remove the stubborn pockets of fat that can accumulate after pregnancies or around C-section scars.

Also in women, the thighs, hips and buttocks are common and popular targets. Many women store more fat in these areas than they'd like, and lipoplasty is one easy way to target these areas.

One area that is popular among both genders is the breast. For men, having too much fat stored around one's chest can be embarrassing. Excess fat can cause a man's chest to appear a little more like a woman's chest than he would like (in fact, the technical term for the swelling of the male breast is gynecomastia, a greek word which means "woman-like breast"). Sometimes a lipectomy can remove excess fat, reduce the size of the area, and make a man feel more comfortable with his appearance.

Although breast fat is much more popular among women, it is possible to have too much of a good thing. Excessively large and heavy breasts can cause a number of problems that range from the social to the physical. Large and heavy breasts can cause joint problem in the spine, shoulders and neck. A lipoplasty can reduce the weight by removing some of the excess fat.
