subject: The Changed Role Of Teachers In 21st Century [print this page]

Everytime I see Jenny, everytime I find the difference between students of these days and students of earlier days, and why only me, in fact anybody would find the difference. The children of the present days are so much into studies and internal exams that they hardly get time for anything else. Whenever I see Jenny I find her doing something or the other school work. Most of the times I get to know that she is having her exams. I wonder what these teachers and students get out of so many exams. Does it really help in improving the quality of education? It wont be wrong if I say yes because the education system has really improved in India and so has the quality of students.

Earlier the students used to leave the job of finding study material to the teachers. They used to completely dependent on teachers and went through only those materials that were provided by teachers. The scenario has taken a new shape now. The present day teachers expect their students to prepare their study materials on their own through as many sources as they want. This in a way helps the students to get a thorough knowledge of the subjects that they are working on.

The schools have undergone a noticeable change and for which the roles of teachers have changed too. In the early years, teachers used to be the key source of knowledge, the head and educator of the students' school life. They used to act as the sole authority in the class. They still play the role and are still considered to be a sort of leader in the class, but they are more like facilitators in the learning process now. They are supporters rather than educators and also help the parents of the children with advices.

The teaching style has changed a lot. Now teachers just dont deliver their lectures in the classrooms but also interact with the students. This helps the students to clear their conceptions or doubts in any of the topics. These days, teachers give information and teach the students how to deal with them. Schools have also introduced the concept of regular internal exams in the recent years so that students get involved with studies most of the time and their loopholes can also be found out easily.

This way the education system of the country is taking a positive turn. It has been found that this way many schools are getting fruitful results and quality of the students have upgraded as compared to early times. This not only keeps the students active but the teachers also. It also helps both the teachers and students to complete the entire syllabus and also to gather knowledge on the related topics that are not in the syllabus. The modern teaching system makes the students work on themselves and through which they get to know about any topic from its core and students also get interest in doing so. The entire process also keeps the teachers busy now and also makes them come up with innovative ideas so as to involve the students with more education related work.
