subject: Building In The Web [print this page] Most people have two hands that are fully capable of doing all sorts of items. I just cant keep but wonder why so few decide to use them.
If you are willing to try out building items on your own, internet might just be your best friend after your local Rautia, a Finnish hardware store (in Finnish: rautakauppa). Internet is full of great advice on building almost anything.
I tend to browse internet just for fun and from time to time I end up having built something new for my apartment. Last but not least I built a whole new kitchen table and I got the inspiration of the internet.
You cant even imagine all the instructions for items you can build that exist on the internet. You could even build a whole house based on the instructions gotten from the internet.
As told before, in building any item you have two really good friends; Internet and your local Rautia. Internet for instruction and inspiration, Rautia for everything you basically need in building different items. If they dont have it, they will order it.
Just recently I was browsing in the internet again and bumped into an open source clockmaker who lives in Canberra, Australia. He is a technical guy, father of two and a craftsman fanatic. He likes to build items, mostly clock these days.
One of his clocks was chosen for the list of best wall clocks of 2011 in Unplugges magazine. That brought the mans garage really to life I suppose. He does everything by hands, not to earn money, but to teach other people the magic of building items with your own hands.
He has published all the instructions of his clocks on the internet all the way to every small detail. He even embraces other clockmakers who copy his instructions and build the very same clocks that he sells.
I found inspiration from the internet, from this man and most recently from Rautia. Internet is my inspiration, this man was my instructions and Rautia is my equipment. I find so much joy in building items and I hope I can make some people share this feeling by reading this blog and searching for the inspiration.
