subject: Politics -- Business As Usual -- More Corruption? [print this page]

The 2012 election year has officially started, politics is fully exposing itself for the nasty, ugly, corrupt creature it is and it is business as usual. I was hoping for some positive change, foolish me. There is a truism about how unusual it is for real positive change to take place from within any organization, however it isnt unusual for negative change. Another truism, which seems to be more-true, is that corrupt organizations do not change from within. Given these two thoughts, what should we expect from this years election, real positive change or more of the same? I read that our two party system, Democrat or Republican has molded itself into a one party system of Republicrats.

Given the massive amounts of money and power that now exists within politics, it isnt difficult to see why cream isnt the only thing to float to the top. A look at the early front runners of Republicrates has shown me that it isnt cream bobbing on the top, which prompts the question, are these candidates/people the best that our great nation can come up with. How do you know what any one individual would be like when they are elected in this politics of power and money? How will they respond; who or what will they become?

I believe there are ways of determining just that. Listen to and read about what they have said in their adult past. Pay close attention to what is said when the comments arent being written for them, when they are in the company of friends, when they are caught un-prepared and when they are angry. Know who has paid for their election campaign because they owe much more to them than you for just voting for them. If they have been a congressman take a little time to find out what they have voted for, who has successfully lobbied them and the dollar amounts they have received from special interest individuals and organizations. Learn how many times they have been divorced as an adult and listen to comments made about them. Read and listen to all campaign promises or what they will do if elected and pay little attention to paid political advertisements, political speeches and debates. Do those few things and you will know who or what you are electing.

It is possible for an individual to change, to become a better person, to rise to the challenge, to be more than they have been in the past, however the jump from politician to patriot is a big one. Some have been able to do these things, however those people are rare and these wonderful changes are facilitated by some traumatic event(s) that have caused them to look at themselves to see what or who they are and to realize that their lives should change to become a better person. People who actually change are very rare and require suspicion until proven.

If you dont believe that there are problems within the government, follow the speeches, advertisements, debates, vote for the Republicrat you prefer and dont expect real changes. I believe there is some hope, because two outside/grassroots groups have emerged, the Tea Party, who seem to be what Republicans used to be and Occupy Wall Street, who seem to be developing into what Democrats used to be. They both need our support to remain on the outside. These two groups may be the balance, what is needed, change from the outside, you and I can/should be a part of this change. RSBBrown
