subject: Fighting Dehydration Improves Players Effectiveness on the Field [print this page]

Dehydration can crush the effectiveness of your team sports program. Making sure your players are properly hydrated during practices and games is essential to ensuring that your team is playing at their absolute best. Players that are dehydrated can suffer from a host of problems including loss of concentration, disorientation, lack of energy, heat stress, and, in cases of extreme dehydration, heat stroke.

All active players from kids through adults can quickly become dehydrated on hot summer days, but drinking enough fluids is also important, even during the cooler fall months. Our bodies are more than 70 percent water and we lose a large percentage of water from our bodies simply by breathing. Once you start sweating during strenuous exercise or when playing team sports, the amount of water you lose and the speed with which you lose it increases. Active adult players may need to consume two to three liters of fluid per hour of playing time to maintain proper hydration.

One way to ensure that you and your players are properly hydrated on the court or playing field is to have a full cooler with water or electrolyte fluid that is easily accessible to all of the players. However, carrying a heavy water cooler can be quite a challenge, especially when you need to travel long distances to the field, or when your team is comprised of younger children. A simple solution to the water transport problem is to have a water cooler cart that can wheel your cooler from the kitchen to the playing field. Things to look for in a quality water cooler cart are all-steel tube construction and all-terrain wheels, so you can get your water to your players no matter what the obstacles are. Help maintain your team's effectiveness by adding a good quality water cooler cart to your team sports program. Don't let your team go another day with improper hydration and help your players improve their effectiveness on the field.
