subject: Stubborn Four-year-old Leads Mother To Take Up Rug Cleaning In Keswick [print this page] Recently my poor sister-in-law has been devoting more time each day on rug cleaning in Keswick than anyone should have to devote to this cause in a life time. All the credit for this new change in lifestyle can be given to my cute yet stubborn nephew who refuses to be potty trained.
He knows what the toilet is for and for the most part he knows when to use it, but when he is having fun doing something else, he has no problem using the carpet, the couch, or anything else at his disposal for his toilet needs.
The times when he struggles the most are during movies or when his brother is playing video games. He has been told over and over again that if he needs to use the restroom, he should just ask the person he is with to put the movie or video game on pause.
Unfortunately, when it comes right down to it, he had rather sit on the couch and wet his pants than have to wait for a few minutes to finish watching his brothers play Sonic the Hedgehog.
This past weekend he put himself and his mother in a really embarrassing situation. He wet his pants on the way to his great-grandfather's funeral, he was already wearing his cute little suit, and there was not a change of clothes in the car.
He was sitting next to my husband and I at the funeral and the smell was pretty intense. He tried to act like nothing had happened, but it was obvious that he was feeling a little ashamed.
My sister-in-law did not say that she was embarrassed, but I cannot imagine how she could go to a huge family gathering with her son smelling of urine and not feel at least a little bit self-conscious.
Of course anyone who has ever been a parent before understands that those kinds of things happen sometimes, but no one is envious of the parent or the child who is in that situation.
The good thing is that for the most part my sister-in-law is a really good sport about things, but it really is unfortunate that instead of spending her time gardening, cooking, or couponing, she has to spend her time on rug cleaning in Keswick, shampooing the seats in her car, and trying to get rid of the unpleasant smells that have a tendency to taint her furniture.
