subject: Affordable Health Care For Everyone [print this page]

A health insurance policy is one that everyone needs. Many of Americans, actually to be more accurate, millions of American's are living without a health insurance policy each and every day. While this may seem like it should be of little concern to those of us who have a health insurance policy in essence it is causing a major financial crisis within the U.S. and here is why.

The majority of Americans feel as if it is not their responsibility to worry about those individuals living without health insurance and that they need only be concerned with taking care of their own so to speak. For every person that is living without health insurance coverage within the United States today there is an additional expense being passed along to those who are paying out of pocket for their own health insurance.

Stated more simply, those that are living without health insurance will at one time or another be in need of health care. Due to this fact they will very likely do one of two things, they will either opt to seek out government assistance for their health care needs or they will opt to go to the local emergency room to get the care they need and won't be able to afford payment of the bill. Either way the cost of their medical treatment will be differed by those who are actually paying for their medical care.

All of these factors contribute to higher taxes that are needed to fund government medical assistance programs such as Medicaid and SCHIP, as well as higher insurance premiums and an overall across-the-board increase in all medical services. Health care issues must be viewed on a broader scale, simply because individuals without health insurance are being treated and those with health insurance are ultimately paying the whole bill.

One solution to this scenario addresses the problem on a broader scale and suggests I health insurance plan that will cover several segments of the population, allowing everyone to pay into the system as well as receive coverage. It is also suggested that this approach to healthcare will require individuals to take some level of responsibility for themselves and their health and remove many of the variables that will allow healthcare costs to be more of affordable for everyone, making sure everyone receives quality healthcare.
