subject: Charges For Cancelled Pick Ups: The Regrettable Fee [print this page]

Each courier in NJ regrets itEach courier in NJ regrets it. It is small in the scheme of things, but still regrettable: the fee for canceled pick ups.

Some folks wonder why they bother, since a cancellation frees up the van and driver for some other business, does it not? Well, not exactly.

They are in the business of making people happy, and customer satisfaction is the number one goal. To achieve this, they have to have numerous drivers with hundreds of deliveries, all performing at top speed throughout the day. A cancellation means that some driver may have gone out of his way for nothing: he may have no other business in the area of town where he had your pick up, so his time and gasoline is lost. In that instance, we have to charge for the loss.

Also, the courier in NJ might not be the one calling the shots here: there may be other couriers involved, since delivery services are far from competitive. They do favors for each other all the time, and have a great and friendly track record with their fellow delivery personnel throughout the New Jersey area.

Naturally, when a cancellation occurs, that means that they must cancel also, and our friends might have been making the delivery for you because it was handier, they were in the neighborhood or they could fit it into their schedule. And with the lost time and business, they lose as much as the courier does, so again, the courier charges a fee.

Hopefully, it is obvious where the courier is going with this: any cancellation involving a fee charge will usually be a last minute problem that came up. If the problem can be overcome, the customer can avoid paying the fees.

The earlier the customer calls, once they know they must cancel, the less likely it is there will be charges; they would seldom ask a fee of anyone who cancelled twenty four to forty eight hours before the pick up. And if the person is a regular customer, and they do business every day (or at least on a regular and scheduled basis), they frequently waive the fee and absorb the cost, simply because the partnership can stand the loss of a few dollars.

As said, customer satisfaction is the main goal, and who is more satisfied than a customer who did not have to pay?
