subject: The Reasons For President Obamas Trip To Australia [print this page]

There is a reason for the Presidents trip to Australia recently which is to shore up US relations in the area and to stop Chinese expansionism before it spreads too far. Now is the time that the United States can make some really good alliances in the region because many of the nations are afraid of the intentions of the Chinese government.

The Chinese are getting to the point where they dont mind rattling their sabres. They are not intimidated at all by any country which doesnt have a military big enough to stop them. The fact that all of the countries in this area know this is moving them to seek the alliance of the United States for protection.

President Barack Obama has visited Australia in conjunction with his trip to the region to meet with government officials to promise US protection and military assistance. He will preposition troops and equipment there in case of Chinese aggression

Mr. Obama arrives in Australia after twice postponing his visit last year due to political and other domestic issues he faced at home. He and Prime Minister Julia Gillard have forged what White Houses officials call an extremely warm relationship

In a news briefing in Hawaii before Mr. Obama left for Canberra, White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the visit is intended to stress America's strong economic and security relationship with Australia. In other words it is designed to make a statement to the Chinese that if they touch Australia they will have to deal with the US.

In remarks to reporters in Hawaii, U.S. Pacific Commander Admiral Robert Willard called Australia a strong ally that is found alongside U.S. forces wherever they operate in the world.

The real significance of this alliance with Australia is that it will give the US a base to operate from in case of Chinese aggression in the South China Sea.

It is a subtil move designed to alert the Chinese government to the fact that there may indeed be consequences to their aggression in the area. If the US can establish a base of operations in Australia it would make it infinitely easier to engage them with US assets and troops.

The Chinese have been busy developing weapons that would keep US carriers at bay. The reason for this is because the carriers can project an extraordinary amount of firepower over a good distance if necessary. The Chinese know that if they can keep US carriers out of the picture they can have their way in the region by intimidating the other countries with threats and the veiled threat of unleashing their military.

The Chinese dont mind using force or intimidation at all to get what they want. There is no doubt in my mind that they will attack any country which prevents them from having their way. This situation will continue to escalate because they need the natural resources available in the area to support their huge population base. Their population is the largest of any country in the world and it continues to grow. They actually dont have a choice in procuring natural resources.Military Ring Express
