On the occasion, Mr Thomas Kuehl, Board member and Director, Sales and Marketing, Skoda Auto India introduced the car as a performance oriented product for the car lovers who have an emotional connect with the car. It boasts of the RS legacy evoking tremendous passion among speed lovers.
Built on the platform of the earlier model the new Laura vRS is truly an upgraded sporty version of an already very impressive Laura. The Skoda Laura- vRS boasts of a complete body kit with rear spoilers, day time working LED, lower profile tyres and very sharp Draconis16 inches twin blade alloy wheels for the macho look. The sporty front fender is well complemented with the smart lip spoiler housing new design fog lamps. Illumination quotient of the car is quite advance with the xenon curve projector head lights with dynamic leveling.
You will be surprised to find the head lights leveling change with the acceleration, braking, descent, inclination and the weight distribution of the car. The front fog lights turn in consonance with the car, illuminating the turns very well for that extra touch of safety. The rear spoiler is also enhanced with the polished twin exhaust tailpipes.
Interior of the car is the definition of the word plush. With the RS emblem adorning the Alcantara leather seats and the steel sports pedal the Skoda Laura- vRS feels richer than the previous models.
The dual shade dashboard has hints of black and brushed aluminium, three spoke perforated leather steering wheel, sun roof etc are the feature placing the car above the rest. But the high light in the cabin is the Central infotainment system with its 6.5 inches LCD TFT display coupled with the touch screen functions. To sooth your senses the Skoda Laura- vRS has 8 speakers allowing the melodies to transport you to another world.
Despite the emphasis on speed and luxury the Skoda Laura- vRS is rich on the safety quotient as well. Loaded with the high end safety features like Anti Lock Braking system (ABS), front and side air bags, Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Anti Slip Regulation and Traction Control System (TCS) it ensures your safety while you enjoy the thrill of the speed.
Under the skin it carries the same 1.8 TSI engine mated to a 6 speed gear box. Though there are no changes yet one is less likely to complain as the engine unit has already proven it and though was earlier a mismatch with the suave look, gels perfectly to the robust and sporty persona. With the slick and smoothly gear box coupled with stiffened suspensions the drive has the sporty touch to it. Zooming 0- 100 kmph in an impressive 8 seconds and with the top speed of 200 kmph just chill and watch the competition eat your dust.
The former Laura was indeed a very suave and smart piece of machinery and now in the new sporty avatar boasting the RS badge indeed has very little to complain about. Yet as the power train remains unchanged it could be a disappointment for the speed lovers looking forward to 2.0 TSI with superb gear box.
