Protein deficiency is an extremely nasty condition that and can lead to mental problems, muscle wasting, organ failure and more. It is very rare in developed countries but can affect people who make poor dietary choices. In this article I will be helping you avoid protein deficiency with 3 of my top tips.

1) EAT EGGS FOR BREAKFAST:

Eggs are a very good source of protein that can be easily turned into a breakfast meal. A medium egg contain an impressive 5.5 grams (g) of protein. Eggs also contain a number of other health boosting nutrients including dietary fats, vitamin B2, vitamin B5, vitamin B12 and vitamin D. Having them for breakfast a few times each week can seriously increase your protein intake. When it comes to cooking eggs, you have plenty of options. Boiled eggs, fried eggs, poached eggs and omelettes are all quick, tasty and easy to prepare. So if you think you might be suffering from protein deficiency, ditch the cereal and have some eggs.

2) HAVE NUTS FOR A SNACK:

Nuts are a brilliant protein source with 100g of almonds containing an impressive 23.4g of protein and a 100g of Brazil nuts supplying you with a notable 15.5g of protein. They also contain an impressive selection of other important nutrients such as dietary fibre, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. By snacking on nuts you will not just be getting extra protein in your diet. You will also be avoiding unhealthy snacks such as cakes, crisps and chocolate.

3) USE PROTEIN POWDER:

If for some reason you are really struggling to get enough protein from natural food sources then protein powders are an option. However, they should only be used as a last resort. Protein powder is a supplement and is designed to supplement a diet that is already rich in this nutrient. It should not be used as 1 of your main protein sources. If you are eating protein with each of your main meals and snacking on nuts you should not need to use protein powders to treat a deficiency.

SUMMARY:

Protein deficiency is very rare but also very nasty. Fortunately, a few small dietary tweaks can quickly fix the problem. If you believe you are suffering from a deficiency then make sure you follow the tips in this article. This will allow you to add extra protein to each of your daily meals and ensure that you are getting enough of this important nutrient.
