subject: Please - Pimp My Home [print this page]

The TV is full of interior design shows these days. One after the other they tell me to tear my floor apart, build it again, tear my bathroom down, build it again, tear my kitchen down, build it again and so on.

At first I thought it would be ludicrous, but after taking the first step and going to an interior design store, buying a set floor and some paint, going home and starting the decoration process, I felt great.

Interior design (in Finnish: sisustus) is not just building something new or destroying old. Its a lifestyle. You project your current life situation, well-being and environment in your home with your set of decoration and interior design.

Interior design shows are meant to give you an idea, a recipe to alter. When you watch cooking shows and adapt recipes, you dont usually go 1/1 with the recipe. You alter it to look like you, taste like you and feel like you. If you like spicy food, you add a bit of chili to the chefs special. If you like blue, you paint your walls blue - thats how it goes. Interior design shows are inspiration for many and they might, at best case scenario, work as a catalyst for taking the first steps towards the store. Trust me. I know.

You easily get the feeling that interior design and decoration changes happen too often and why would you want to re-design your home so often? When you start the process you will get it - you reflect everything through your interior design. It is fun, creative, not necessary cheap but at least its something you can do by yourself.

There are so many cool shops for decorating and interior design. In the best shops you will get tips and tricks and they might even show you how to build ie. stairs in your garden. Shops in this business always provide high-end tools for creating your interior design. You can usually choose from a ready made solution that you then have to fit to your home or you can start building your own interior with unique elements and good quality materials. I visited K-Rauta and found most of the equipment I needed, but more over I got some really essential tips and tricks from the friendly staff.

I highly recommend starting interior design projects in your home. They are energizing, creative and fun processes. It always pays back when youre happy.
