subject: The Muppets (movie) A Nostalgic Trip Down The Memory Lane [print this page] Like most people I prefer to know more about a movie before watching it. I would like to know what the movie is about, its subplot, characters etc. Even knowing these information firsthand does not drain my enthusiasm and energy to go for a movie. But like all movie goers, I prefer to know the value of the entertainment for which I am paying.
My friends suggested we all go for the recently released movie called The Muppets. Now not being a hardcore fan of the Muppets series, I thought it would be wise to know the review of the movie before going for it. Just incase, if it does not suit me, I could give a vague excuse to my friends about a previous unavoidable engagement to avoid this movie. So I just logged on to the net which is connected to ATT Uverse Internet and checked the reviews of the Muppets movie.
Frankly, it was satisfying as most of the critics had given three to four stars out of five for this movie. Some critics like Genevieve Loh of the Todayonline website gave a rating of four stars out of five and even said it a film that would bring a nostalgic trip down the memory lane in tears. Websites like Rotten Tomato have given an average rating of 3.5/7.5 and 79% of the people who have posted their on their websites have liked it. But some critics have criticized the movie saying it is depicting business men as evil. Some even went to extend by telling that the movie is brainwashing the kids against the wealthy people.
After reading the various reviews and the criticisms, I decided to go ahead and watch the movie. The plot of the movie goes like this, Walter; a Muppet, lives with his brother Gary; a human, in a frictional place called Smalltown. When they were young they watched a show of the Muppets and became a huge fan of it. Now in their adulthood, Walter and Gary continue to live together in their home town of Smalltown and one day Gary plans a vacation to Los Angeles with his girlfriend Mary to celebrate their tenth anniversary, and he invites his brother Walter along so that they both can see the Muppet Theater which they have been craving to see since their youth. Gary is very happy with this idea of vacation as among the brothers he is one of the hugest fans of the Muppets. Mary the fiance of Gary feels that Gary's attachment to Walter has been affecting their relationship which is on the break up point.
In Los Angeles, the three of them visit the Muppet Theater and are devastated to find it in bad shape. During the tour around the theater, Walter sneaks into Kermit the Frog's office and discovers Statler and Waldorf selling the theater to Tex Richman, an oil magnate, and his associates Bobo the Bear and Uncle Deadly. Waldorf explains his financial difficulties and tells to Walter that if he could find the Muppets and raise $10 million they could repurchase the theater. After Statler and Waldorf leave, Walter learns Tex's true intentions of tearing down the Muppet Theater as there is a huge amount of oil reserve underground where the Muppet Theater is located .Walter explains this crises to Gary and Mary, and the three of them track down Kermit the Frog. Kermit is sad to learn the news, and realizes that the only way to earn the money would be to put on a show by reuniting the Muppets. Finding the group and how their keep their differences apart to save the Muppets Theater forms the remaining part of the story.
The film is directed by James Bobin and written by Segel. Bret McKenzie is its music supervisor. The films distributor is Walt Disney Pictures. The film has been rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America because of some mild rude humor. The Muppets is one of the best American musical comedy films that I have watched. It does bring some nostalgic movements or memories especially for the Muppets fans, like my friend who went and watched the movie three times and ended up in tears all the time.
