subject: Tips To Save Money On Your Electricity Bill [print this page]

Today, the cost of things is on the riseToday, the cost of things is on the rise. Because of this all of us can benefit from various money saving tips.

One area that we call all work to conserve is the electricity that we use. Saving money on electricity can be accomplished in a variety of ways.

First, be sure to turn off the lights when you leave a room. This is probably the simplest way of saving electricity. If you start to do this it is likely that you will notice a decrease in your energy bill.

Also, when turning off the lights remember to turn off any ceiling fans when you leave the room. A fan that runs constantly can cost up to $7 a month depending on the size and age.

Second, have major appliances unplugged when you are not using them. This means unplug your toaster, television, microwave, and whatever else you feel is appropriate.

Most appliances use energy even when they are not turned on. Because of this it is always a good idea to keep them unplugged unless you are using them at that very moment.

A good tip is to plug your appliances into a power strip that you can easily turn on and off. It will make the process of cutting off the electricity to your appliances quick and easy.

Third, install an adjustable thermostat. This feature allows you to adjust the temperature automatically and maximize your energy savings.

It will also help to maintain a comfortable temperature when you wake up or return home. This will save you money on your electricity bill when you aren't home.

To save during the warmer months, cool your home at 78 degrees or warmer with the thermostat fan switched onto auto. Then for additional savings, you should raise your thermostat to 82 degrees or warmer when you're away from home.

Fourth, you can use either wind power or solar power to generate free usable electricity. The use of wind energy is best used in open areas where a large amount of it can be collected.

If you live at the mouth of a canyon or another area that produces wind you may consider harnessing wind energy. A home wind turbine moves when the wind blows. This action is what collects the energy.

Solar energy is the most affordable way of saving electricity. Adding home solar power systems to the roof of your home or your business can be done on your own.

There are also plenty of contractors out there that will professionally install them for you. They collect the sunlight and convert it into electricity that you can use, saving you money on your electrical bill.

It is important to save money on your electricity bill not only for the sake of saving money, but also, to save electricity.
