subject: 5 Ways To Use Your Ipad As A Teaching Tool [print this page]

Students using iPads in the classroom can be distracting, but teachers are finding many creative ways to use iPads as teaching tools in their classrooms. Some schools are even issuing iPads to students so they can be used to further their education. Here are five ways that teachers can use their iPad as a teaching tool.

1. iTunes U

If you haven't explored iTunes U, it is definitely worth checking out. It houses more than 350,000 videos, podcasts and books from learning institutions located all over the world. iTunes U is free and offers access to broadcasts from PBS, podcasts from Oxford and more. The content can be downloaded directly onto the iPad to be accessed any time.

2. Dropbox

Dropbox is one of the best tools available for the iPad. It is an application that allows the user to store their files online to be accessed from any computer, smartphone or iPad. It is a great application for teachers because they often need to access the same files from their school and home computers.

3. QuickVoice Recorder

QuickVoice Recorder is a great way for teachers to critique their own teaching performance. The teacher can record themselves teaching in the classroom and listen to the recording later to see how their lectures can be improved upon.

4. History:Maps of the World

History: Maps of the World is a wonderful application for history teachers as well as teachers of art, music, politics and other subjects. This free app allows teachers to show their students maps of different parts of the world from different eras. Students can see how national boundaries have changed over time. They can also watch tectonic plates shift and more.

5. Numbers for iPad

Similar to Microsoft's Excel program, Numbers is an easy to use spreadsheet app for the iPad. The program is simple to access and allows users to import all of the information stored on the existing Excel spreadsheets on their computer.

Although they are not traditionally a teaching tool, an iPad can be a wonderful tool for any teacher to use. There are hundreds of other apps that teachers can download to assist them with their duties in the classroom and beyond.
