subject: Tips To Choosing Rugged Rugby Kits [print this page]

Rugby is a strenuous sport demanding physical stamina and mental determination. It is only logical that the kits - uniforms, as these are also called - should be up to the task of a demanding sport.

When you are choosing the sports wear for rugby that your team will be using, your first consideration is always ruggedness. Questions about the ability of the fabric to withstand constant abuse on the playing field and the capacity of the seams to hold should be asked of the online retailer selling these items. Better yet, you should judge the kits according to the following criteria that make for ruggedness.

Durability:

Keep in mind that rugby is a tough, even brutal, sport. Players inevitably make hard physical contact with other players, with the ball and with the ground. Diving around the mud, pulling on the shirts and other strenuous activities put extreme physical strain on both the players and their clothes.

Thus, your first criterion in looking for the best kits is to durability. When we speak of durability, we usually refer to the following things:

The fabric must be made of tough materials. The traditional material was cotton but synthetic fabrics have also been incorporated into the final product. The most common blend is cotton and polyester as well as pure polyester - the blend is used mostly by spectators while the polyester is used by players. Polyester is the preferred fabric for three reasons. First, it clings to the skin and it is slippery to the hold, which means that it is harder for other players to get a hold on during a tackle. Second, it absorbs lesser amount of water and mud during games, thus, making it lighter even when wet. Keep in mind that extra weight can hinder a player's movement especially when the match play is on wet, heavy and muddy ground. Third, it can withstand rips and tears better than cotton, which is important in a strenuous game like rugby.

The stitching pattern used on the rugby kits particularly the shirts and shorts must ensure that these items of clothing will hold even in a tackle. Everything from the neckline to the hemline must be stitched properly lest the seams start to unravel. Basically, you are looking for a durable shirt and shorts that will stay on the body during training sessions and match plays.

Breath-ability:

The fabric used on the shirts and shorts must also be breathable. Rugby is played in all weather conditions but it is arguably sunny weather that can drain players faster. The importance of breathable fabrics cannot then be overemphasised.

Again, the best choice is 100% polyester. It has moisture-wicking properties, which means that it allows moisture to escape and, thus, keeps the wearer cool.

Size:

As previously mentioned, the fit of the shirt must be just right. The main purpose is to allow the player to move as freely as possible while also giving other players little chance to hold on to the shirt during tackles.

So, before ordering the rugby shirts and shorts, be sure that you have the measurements down pat. Besides, you don't want players to end up in their underwear on the field, do you?

With these qualities in mind, you can now start designing your rugby kits. Look for an online retailer with a design application tool to make the design process easier and faster.
