subject: Shows In The West End [print this page]

Shows in the West End can vary from a dramatical play, to an uplifting, feel good Musical. Whatever your taste, the West End has something to offer everyone.

There are many amazing shows currently being staged in the West End so if you find yourself at a loss at the weekend, or want to desperately see one of the up and coming shows, be sure to make a visit to theatre land.

Some of the long running musicals are still proving as popular as ever with shows like The Lion King, Blood Brothers, Chicago, We Will Rock You, Mamma Mia, Les Miserables and Phantom of The Opera. If you are thinking to yourself, well Ive seen most of those, then why not consider some of the new recent musicals that have been a success so far, such as Jersey Boys, Legally Blonde, Ghost The Musical, Rock of Ages, Shrek The Musical and The Wizard of Oz. Most are suitable for kids, and adults alike, so take the family, or a friend or loved one, as the whole theatre experience is not to be missed!

Plays tend to have a shorter run than musicals, but if it is very successful producers often consider extending it, and may introduce new cast members.

There are not so many long running classic plays in the west end, but these few are still topping the popularity charts - Mousetrap (The world's longest-running play of any kind is now in its 58th year! ) and Woman in Black (in its 21st terrifying year!)

The 39 Steps has been running for 5 years, and the award winning War Horse looks like its here to stay for a few years yet, being one of the best plays receiving Olivier, Evening Standard and Critic Choice awards.

If you want to feel in the Christmas Spirit, then why not visit the theatre in the weeks coming up to Christmas visiting performances such as A Christmas Carol, Lion In Winter, Sooty Christmas Show and The Snowman.

If you are a lover for dance shows, then try to book up to see shows such as Birmingham Royal Ballet, Midnight Tango, Matthew Bournes Nutcracker and Rambert Dance Company, to name a few!

If you have never been to the theatre or wondering what to buy as a Christmas gift, any of the shows in the west end would be the perfect choice!
