A plastic pallet is a pallet used for moving and storing freight. Plastic pallets are pallets made of a variety of plastics both virgin and recycled materials. Plastic pallets are more widely used in Europe than in the rest of the world. It is used as a base for assembling, storing, stacking, handling and transporting goods as a unit load.
Plastic pallets are often chosen over traditional wood pallets because they offer benefits which wood can not. Some benefits over wood include the ability to easily sanitize plastic pallets, resistance to odor, longer service life span, and lighter weight, thus saving transportation and labor costs.
Commonly it is about four feet square and is so constructed to make possible the placement of a lift truck's forks between the levels of a platform so it may be moved easily.
Reusable plastic pallets are designed for more than one trip. Companies typically use returnable pallets in a closed loop supply chain to reduce capital investments, lower transportation costs and increase margins over time.
