The Range Rover is a large luxury four wheel drive sport vehicles. It was produced by British car maker Land Rover. The first model of this car was introduces in 1970. Now it is in third generation. It was also developed by Land Rover as its premium brand. It was used as a brand name on two other models. The rage rover sports and the range rover Evoque are the models of Range Rover. The Rover Company experimented with a larger model than the Land Rover series in 1951. By the time the Rover P4 based two wheel drive Road Rover project was developed by Gordon Bash ford. This was shelved in1958. The Idea lay dormant until 1966. By the time engineers Spencer King and Gordon Bash ford set to work on new model.
The first Range Rover prototype was built in 1967. It includes the classic Range Rover shape clearly discernible. It had different front light and headlight configuration. In between 1970 and 1996 the first generation Rover was produced. The original car was not designed as a luxury type. It was like the contemporary Series Land Rovers. The Range utilized coil spring as opposed to leaf springs. It also utilized permanent four wheel drive and four wheel disk brakes. The latest version uses a monologue body structure. Actually the range rover is powered by Rover V8 engine. In later models used 4.4 L BMW V8. It was continued until the introduction of a 3.6 liter TDV8 engine.
The third generation model of this series was introduced in 2002. It was seen the model move further up market. It was planed and developed under BMW ownership. The third generation was to chair components and systems with E38 7 series. It was designed to accommodate BMWs M62 V8 engines. The manual transmission was dropped entirely. Only automatic transmissions were kept. Land Rover released the first photographs of the Range Rover Sports on 26th November 2004. It was planned to show a new model to the public. It was showed in 2005 In North American International Auto show.
