subject: The Benefits Of Confidence In A Relationship [print this page]

Relationships require workRelationships require work. That does not mean you just talk things out, do your share and love your mate. You also have to work on yourself sometimes too. If you lack confidence, try to build it up by doing things you are not confident about and succeeding at them. It can help your relationships.

It might seem like confidence is something you only need in extreme situations, work, sports, etc. However, it does play a background role in relationships. No matter how much two people love each other, a lack of confidence can severely damage a relationship, especially when it comes to infidelity. Having no confidence in oneself can lead you to believe that you are not enough to keep your partner loyal.

You may feel jealousy, inadequacy and other feelings that lead to suspicion, which can then lead to arguments. At the very least, suspicion leads to stress, which can lead to relationship problems. A confident person would not look for signs of infidelity. Of course, a confident person would not just let infidelity happen, either. It is a delicate balance made easier by healthy self-perception.

Confidence can also make the every day things more fluid in a relationship. For example, a person who lacked confidence might be too nervous to meet their significant other's parents or go to a work event with him or her. This can cause tension as the lack of confidence translates to lack of support. Being confident means being there for your significant other when he or she needs you to be there.

Confidence is a tricky state of mind to achieve. It requires a trust of oneself that can be difficult to develop, especially if a person has a history of poor self-perception. However, it is possible for any person to achieve confidence if they set realistic goals and work hard at conquering them. Developing a history of accomplishment goes a long way in building confidence. It also helps to realize when perceived failures are not your fault. Once you develop that confidence, it can strengthen your relationships and make it easier if they do not work out.
