subject: Professional, Inexpensive Web Design For Small Business [print this page]

A business that wants to succeed needs to have, as the most basic minimum, a website of its own.

Moreover it needs a website that is appealing to look at, easy to navigate and preferably including some level of interactivity. It has to give out the information you want your customers to have possession of clearly and concisely, be properly optimised for the purposes of SEO and contain those keywords that you need to be listed on all the major search engines.

On top of all this, it should be easy to read so that the visitor will want to return to your site. So often in business success is about repeating the message and getting your potential customers to come back when they are ready to make a purchase, as opposed to simply hoping that you will manage to sell them something on the first visit.

There are essentially two ways in which to build a website that ticks all of these boxes. The first is to build it by yourself, applying all the HTML coding and script that is needed in order to make sure the images, text, links, forms and other such items all end up exactly where you want them to be, in the correct size, style, format, shape and colour. If building websites is what you specialise in then this should not present much of a problem.

For the remainder of us whose areas of expertise lie elsewhere, it is usually much easier and certainly less time-consuming to engage somebody whose talent it is to design us a site that meets all our needs.

The drawback, which is so often the case with services provided by a third party, is of course the cost. Some web designers will charge customers a quite absurd amount to build a functional site and, even worse, will then tie them into an agreement that involves paying more money every time they wish to alter or upgrade it in any way. If we are really fortunate the upturn in business won as a result of us having acquired a more professional site will pay the fees of the designer.

Fortunately though the greed of some has provoked others in the field to offer more viable alternatives in business web design, taking advantage of all the latest web technology to build affordable websites that are still very attractive, professional and modifiable but which are offered at a more realistic price and given to us as a package that enables customers to update the sites themselves without having to pay unreasonable sums of their hard-earned cash for the privilege.

Expert but affordable web design is now very much a reality, enabling smaller businesses to compete on a more realistic footing with the larger enterprises to which money isnt an object.
