subject: En Vogue At The Dentist [print this page]

When you turn on the television these days, you will notice a barrage of two hour white strips, teeth whitening tooth pastes and veneer ads and commercials. And in case you have not noticed that teeth and a great smile are the best accessory money can buy, then you just have not been paying enough attention to your teeth. The young and hip of today's world are taking themselves for a visit to the dentist and making some interesting requests. And it is not just super white straight teeth. It would seem straight teeth are so, well, normal. In fact, many a dentist may be surprised by certain tooth related requests, but in the style world it is totally en vogue.

You may have heard that it is en vogue to have vampire teeth or a gap tooth. But, even these tooth trends are considered "last season." Being different when it comes to your smile is really the biggest trend. And, although the trends change from season to season, your teeth really do say something about you. Everyone knows that your smile makes a huge impact on your appearance. But, if you are really up to the minute on the latest in pop culture and fashion from around the world then you will already know about " yaeba".

"Yaeba" is Japanese for crooked teeth. Oh yes, crooked teeth are en vogue! And while this may be shocking to the average person or some in the orthodontia profession, it is highly sought after in some cultures. In fact, there are many people out there who find crooked teeth a very attractive attribute to hold. This may sound stark raving mad to some, especially in American culture since every soccer mom who has her priorities straight will have braces on her wish list for her children. But, some people out there consider crooked teeth different, edgy and even admirable.

However, it is also worth noting that crooked teeth are not the only part of "yaeba". It is also quite popular in Japan to have some teeth elongated and sharped. This gives the more edgy and perfectly imperfect look. If you stop to think about it, teeth are really your own personal fingerprint or stamp. They are what separates you from the crowd. So, this really opens the world up to everyone in fashionable terms anyway. Thinking about your smile this way can make you feel a little bit better about some of the little imperfections you see when you look in the mirror. Straight, crooked, sharpened, as long as they are healthy, most dentists would agree that it does not really matter what they look like as long as you take care of them.
