subject: Article Marketing Success: 5 Tips For Generating Article Topics [print this page]

Don't worry that you need to be a creative genius in order to have article marketing success. Most people who do article marketing are just "regular" business owners who have knowledge to pass on to readers about their subject matter.

If you're like most people who submit articles, you'll have some times when you can't think of anything to write. It can be a scary feeling if you haven't been through it before--you can think, "Oh no, I guess I just don't have any more articles left in me!"

That's totally not the case--even professional writers go through periods when they draw a blank and can't think of anything to write, but they eventually get over it. I've been through this many times before, and I can tell you that it's a phase that eventually passes. The important part is not to give up.

I've got 5 tips that may just help you get the article ideas flowing again:

1 - Talk instead of write.

Instead of writing your articles down (or typing them), try dictating them into an audio recorder. It's a totally different experience, and when you listen back to "your article", you may notice a fresh angle and a stronger personal "voice" or style.

2 - Remember your humble beginnings, like when you were first starting out in your niche and didn't know a lot of the basics.

There are other people who are walking in your footsteps, and they sure can use some helpful articles that will teach them how to get started. Think of yourself as a teacher, someone who is guiding others who know less than you do.

3 - Keep on learning.

You may know a lot about your topic, but you still have more to learn. Is there something having to do with your niche that you've been avoiding because it confuses you? Now is the time to tackle that, figure it out, and then write an article or two to teach others what you've learned.

4 - Do some basic keyword research.

Google offers a free keyword research tool that's really easy to use. Just type in a phrase that's associated with your niche. The list that Google returns will indicate related phrases that have been typed into Google. It will tell you how many times in the last month that phrase (or a related phrase) was searched for, so you have an idea about the popularity. Many times just seeing those phrases that show up in the keyword research can spark article ideas.

5 - Ditch your computer.

Try writing with a pen or pencil and a pad of paper, rather than typing on a keyboard. You can write from anywhere--in your backyard, in a park, on an airplane, in a doctor's waiting room--anywhere. It's super easy to just whip out your pad of paper and a pen to jot down some quick notes. The change in location can do wonders to stimulate your creativity, not to mention that when you write long hand you're using your brain in a different way than when you type. You may find yourself feeling more creative by writing in a different way and in different locations.

If you are stumped on what to write about, don't fret. It's perfectly normal to run into a dead end creatively sometimes. If you're written articles in the past, you can do so again. Which of these 5 idea boosters will you try first to get your creative juices flowing again?
