subject: Article Marketing Tips: How Do You Capture Article Ideas? [print this page]

Chances are that before you started submitting articles that you never really thought in terms of article topics. After you start writing articles though, your brain gets into "article writing mode" and you'll find you're coming up with article ideas right and left.

You'll find ideas popping into your head when you're not in front of your computer and maybe you're not in your house at all. You could be doing something totally unrelated, like taking a run in the park, taking a shower, waiting in line at the bank, or shopping for groceries.

What do you do if you're running around town and suddenly inspiration strikes? This article offers 6 article marketing tips to help you capture these ideas so that you don't lose any.

1 - Buy a small notepad and keep it and a pen with you at all times (say in your purse or in your back pocket). Then, no matter where you are you can jot down your article idea the moment you think of it.

2 - If you're stuck without a pen and paper, just call your own voicemail and leave yourself a message telling what your article idea is. Then, when you get back to the office you can listen back to it.

3 - Create a folder, either on your computer or an actual paper folder that you keep in a filing cabinet, and use it to collect your article ideas. When you're away from your office and your computer, you can either call your voicemail or jot down a note on paper for yourself, and then when you get back to the office you can put these ideas into a more systematized folder that holds all your ideas.

4 - Keep your article ideas in your blog. Just add a new post (in draft mode), put a working title and a few notes on what the article should be about, and save it. You'll have all of your article ideas in one easy to get to spot, and you can easily review them.

5 - You can keep your article ideas in your email--just create a draft email that you keep on updating every time you get a new idea. If your email is web-based, then you'll have access to your idea list even when you're away from your office and regular computer.

6 - Do things the old fashioned way--just take a sheet of note paper and list your article ideas on it. Tape it to the wall by your desk, and then refer to it when you're ready to write.

Whenever you get an article idea, it's important to immediately write the main points down, or else you'll tend to forget. Try to think of a temporary title and then jot down as much information as you can while the inspiration is hot. The more information you record the better--just seeing your notes on the topic will jog your memory to what you were thinking at the time you had the idea.

Finding a way to capture your article ideas is a great stress reliever too--it hurts to have a great idea and then to forget it before you had a chance to capture it! It's reassuring to know that when inspiration strikes, you're ready for it!
