subject: Plastic And More Plastic It's Everywhere From Pipes To Window Panes!! [print this page]

There was a time when everything was manufactured out of glass or from one or the other metal. People relied on these and vowed by them. But, as industrial revolution came, people recognized the use of a polymer plastic in simple terms. Such was the versatility of this material that it started making its waves everywhere. From door knobs to kitchen cabinets to children's toys, it was simply everywhere.

In today's world, it is used in almost every field- biotechnology, pharmaceutical, aerospace, toy manufacturing and almost everywhere. From plastic fittings to sheets, it is used in almost every industrial segment. Fittings of all sizes, colours, designs and formats could be easily seen in the market. Plastic Components, Rigid Sheets, Foot Valve & Non Return Valves, Plastic Fittings and valves this polymer just had no competition and till date has no one to show its mettle.

There are so many uses of these fittings. These are used in pipes often called as Pipe Fittings, used in plumbing systems to connect straight pipe or tubing sections and so on. Materials used in manufacturing these fittings include carbon steel, low temperature service carbon steel, stainless steel, non ferrous metals like Inconel, Incoloy etc,Non Metallic ones like GRE, PVC, HDPE and so on. The body of fittings for pipe and tubing are most often of the same base material as the pipe or tubing being connected. Most often used materials are copper, steel, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. But what is interesting is that all of these have a coat of thick plastic to cover these that makes this polymer the most admired one.

Plastic has many disadvantages as well. It is not really the most desirable one in places like fire attack, earthquakes, high voltage water flurry and volcanic eruption. Yet it is widely used in number of places due to its high ductility and durability. It is used almost everywhere despite of its advantages because of its good aspects like light weight, easy to carry in transportation and resistance to a certain level of hydraulic pressure. The less one can say about it, the more can be seen about the goodness of this polymer. If you haven't tried it by now, you should!

Because of its versatile nature, plastic is being widely used these days. From making toys for kids to industrial use like plastic fittings and pipes, it has a wide scope. It was not so at the beginning of the century. That era was dominated by glass and metals. With the beginning of the century things changed and then came the plastic. It was human inquisitiveness and a pursuit to bring better things which changed the world. Who knows what will come next!!
