subject: Quick Ways To Lose Weight And Stay Slim [print this page]

Much of the country these days is overweight or obese -- or at least has its citizens trying to watch their weight. If you've got a few pounds to lose (or more than a few), you may think there are no quick ways to lose weight. However, you'd be wrong. And, you can have quick weight loss and do so healthfully.

Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Research has shown that people who don't eat breakfast have a 4-5% lower metabolic rate than those who do! This small difference in metabolic rate adds up over time - remember the higher your basal metabolic rate, the more calories you burn at rest! So eat a healthy, balanced breakfast with all macro-nutrients featured - protein, fats and carbs - bailing out on brekkie can destroy your weight loss efforts!

You might have heard this countless times. But you may be surprised to know that by drinking more water you can lose a little bit of water weight in your body.

You might be carrying on around 3-5 pounds or more of excess water in your body. Surprisingly, you can lose this excess water weight by drinking more water. This might sound contradictory, but what really happens is that the body will not hold on to excess water once you start drinking enough of it.

As you work to find quick ways to lose weight you should arrange your eating habits to eat 4-5 smaller meals instead of 3 large meals a day. By planning out a series of smaller meals you can reduce hunger cravings and help to avoid overeating. These meals should consist of smaller healthy portions of starch free items and fruits and vegetables that will not only give you nutrition but they will help to detoxify your body. A piece of fruit an hour before a meal also curbs your appetite because of the natural sugars and fiber.

It's a pretty simple strategy, but one of the best ways to lose weight basically revolves around making your body burn more calories than you eat. Just get more exercise than you currently do, and eat less. It's that simple. You don't have to get all complicated about it, just try and cut down at meal times, and maybe go for a walk 3 times a week. If you're adventurous you could even jog!

Move Around - Just get up right now, get away from your computer and go outside. This is pretty much the easiest thing you can do. Take a walk around the block, walk your dog, play with your children, go window shopping! Not having much physical activity can lead to a number of other illnesses and can cause you to be just downright lousy. Do something now!

And when your metabolism goes down, you are less effective at burning calories. And that means (you guessed it) that no matter what you do, you eventually gain weight because you simply can't burn the calories you once did before you went on a diet. Not fair, is it? But that's the way it is, and actually, it's a good survival mechanism left to us by our ancestors. In their time, there truly was "feast or famine," and a drop in calories meant that you had to conserve energy. Hence, your metabolism went down so that you could survive the famine and live to see plenty once again.
