Merrill Brink International and Merrill Corporation Host United Kingdom Bribery Act Panel Discussion

More than 50 people attend the event to learn about Bribery Act compliance programs and action plans for multi-jurisdictional investigations.

London, UK Merrill Brink International (www.merrillbrink.com), a leading global provider of language solutions for global companies and law firms, recently hosted a panel discussion in London, UK to share information around best practices for complying with the Bribery Act. The Bribery Act (the Act) has wide jurisdiction and captures acts of bribery committed by any commercial business, wherever incorporated in the world, that does at least part of its business in the UK.

The panel discussion at the November 11th event was conducted in conjunction with key international law firms and corporations who support a variety of industries with Bribery Act compliance programs and a need for multi-jurisdictional investigations.

The panel was CPD certified and focused on topics including the jurisdiction of the Act, self-reporting, hospitality, inter-agency and regulatory cooperation, liability to third-party actions, compliance issues and raid plans.

The panel discussion featured the following recognised experts with significant anti-bribery and anti-corruption litigation and compliance experience:

Chris Dickson consultant, Grant Thornton UK

Patrick Doris partner, Gibson Dunn

David Lamont vice president legal and financial language solutions, Merrill Brink International

Lisa Osofsky regulatory advisor, Control Risks London

Charles Pugh partner, Bristows

Tony Woodcock partner, Stephenson Harwood

Organisations that are aware of the impacts and compliance requirements of the Act are best equipped to deal with the law. Companies need to consider the steps to implement compliance systems or controls and partner with service providers who have experience in these matters. An effective compliance program takes into account the method and dissemination of communication, and keen consideration of the culture and language of its audience, said Jim Moore, executive vice president, Merrill Brink International. Merrill Brink and our parent company, Merrill Corporation, are uniquely qualified to provide an integrated suite of language and legal tools which consistently deliver efficient and cost-effective outcomes on Bribery Act due diligence and compliance matters.

Additional Bribery Act and FCPA events are planned for major cities throughout Europe and the U.S. in coming months.

In addition to Merrill Brink Internationals translation and localisation services, Merrill Corporation works with corporate and legal entities in the management, collection, processing, hosting and disclosure of material for matters requiring document review.
