subject: Optimization Of Web Pages By Web Tec Mart [print this page]

Since the average price of Internet bandwidth for computers raises webmasters no longer afford to develop complex Web sites filled with heavy graphics. In extreme cases, you can find the sites that take a few minutes to download the content in your browser. Of course, you never wait long to download a website, and moves to the next site of its search results.

So, why are webmasters still developing slow loading bloated websites? It is mainly due to lack of knowledge of simple graphic optimization techniques, which allow them to maintain a website attractive, while the smaller page size.

How many of you are aware that a box with rounded corners can be achieved using CSS only, without any graphic image. Well you can! Before those of you familiar with CSS say that it cannot be done for each type of browser and a relatively high level of programming is required, I would say dealing with the most common mistakes web designers relating to the optimization can have simple solutions.

Never restrict a web designer by imposing restrictions that affect the result. You can expect to do it, what a web designer can do photo editing programs have been impossible to implement the code. I disagree. Once the design is complete and you are ready to cut into small images can be used in the html code, creativity has been tested. All you do now affects the entire page size. If the project includes rounded shapes that overlap or areas with color transitions, you must carefully sliced, so that the end result is a small file size.

Let's look at what the effectiveness of slicing:

Do not make big slices, which contain a lot of different colors. Use a small number of slices where each slice contains a limited number of colors.

Not make a big portion that contains the same graph structure. Cut a small part of it and duplicate it in the code. This is a very common mistake that webmasters / programmers make when it comes to a background color gradient.

Do not use the JPEG file format at any time. In some cases, the GIF format is much smaller. The rule of thumb - Slice a large number of colors is less than the size of the JPEG or GIF format, and the opposite is true. Check each option separately. Every 1KB that you reduce the size of the image file to be added to the end to reduce significantly the size of the page.

If you have text on a plain background, not slicing. Use the code to create the background instead. Remember, you can set both the font and background color in the field using CSS.

Advanced Techniques

Optimizing graphics for a site is more than just how to do image optimizations. There are some advanced techniques that require a high level of programming. CSS2 has much more to offer then CSS does. Although not all browsers have adopted this standard, but you must be prepared when they do. JavaScript also gives you a set of options to create some cool effects without overloading the page with Flash. Using limited tools like JavaScript compared to an advanced application like Flash to create the desired effects can be difficult. But think of the result. For a onetime effort you can differentiate your site from others. You will get a nice professional web site that loads quickly.

Back to the Future

Such as PDAs, smart phones and mini laptops are used with wireless Internet connections for Internet browsing, publishing fast loading web pages will improve the search experience, not only for those who use of broadband connections, but also user-friendly browsing experience (or can I say, bandwidth friendly) to wireless clients.

To those who argue that design web optimization is not necessary, because everyone has a broadband connection at the end, I agree to a point. However, software companies are creating applications that use more bandwidth because they know it is available for them to use. Get used to writing well optimized web pages, because this game of cat and mouse never ends, and you better learn the rules of the game as it is bitten.
